中村協子個展「かわいい刺繍と楽しい絵画」11月7日(土)〜11月28日(土)

studio J に於ける11月の展覧会として、中村協子個展「かわいい刺繍と楽しい絵画」
を開催致します。これまで中村は、studio JよりART OSAKA 及びグループ展に出展し
て参りましたが個展としては二度目の開催となります。

今回の展覧会タイトルである「かわいい刺繍と楽しい絵画」の展示作品を一目見た印象は、
全くその通りです。鮮やかな色使い、小動物や若い女性と言った明らかに可愛いらしいモチーフ、
装飾性の強い画面構成がなされていますが、しかしその表面の華やかさの裏に隠されている深い
洞察にも御注目下さい。

例えば「美しすぎるエスキモー　made in France（異人さんシリーズより）」を例に
取ると、これは100年ほど前にフランスで作られた図案を中村が復刻刺繍した作品ですが、
異国情緒あふれる刺繍の図案を集めていると、異国への憧れを集めているのか偏見を集
めているのか作家自身が分からなくなってきたそうです。

今回の個展から始まる「異人さんシリーズ」と「ウォーホルのドローイングを下敷き
にしたシリーズ」、また今までお馴染みのヘンリー・ダーガー、バービー、JIGOKU、辞
書シリーズなどの新作も併せて御紹介いたします。

作家コメント：
日々わきあがる個人的・社会的関心を混ぜ合わせ切り取り重ね合わせて一つ一つ小品へと昇華させています。
多種多様なテーマが響き合って作られる作品群を楽しんでいただければと思います。

studio J Exhibition Notice

Announcing Kyoko Nakamura’s solo exhibition “Cute Embroideries and Fun Paintings” which will be held at studio J for the month of November. Nakamura has exhibited her works at ART OSAKA and group exhibitions both through studio J. This is her second solo exhibition held at studio J.

The first impression you will get of this exhibition is just as the title describes “Cute Embroideries and Fun Paintings”. Bright colors and undoubtedly cute motifs with small animals and young women with highly decorative picture compositions. However, hidden behind the splendid surface are also deeply profound insights that are intriguing for the spectator.

Taking a look at Nakamura’s artwork “The Beautiful Eskimo: made in France (from the Ijin-san series)”. This piece was created by reprinting and embroidering a design made in France about 100 years ago. When you are collecting embroidery designs full of foreign beauties such as these, you start to wonder if you are collecting for the love and admiration for foreign objects or if you are collecting through a biased lens. The creator herself admits that she could not differentiate between the two emotions.

“Ijin-san (meaning: Foreigner)” and “Drafts of Warhol’s Drawings” are newly created series highlighted in this exhibition. “Henry Darger”, “Barbie”, “JIGOKU”, “Dictionary” all are also new series of works that will be introduced.

Comment from the Artist:
Personal and social interests arise within me every day and I mix and match, cut and paste, layer these together and channel them one by one into small pieces of work. I hope that you will enjoy the group of works of a wide variety of themes that echo each other within the creation process.
