グループ展 「ワンダーシュゲイズム」

studio J 展覧会のお知らせ

studio J における2023年4月の展覧会として、池田慎、中村協子、八木春香によるグループ展「ワンダーシュゲイズム」を開催致します。

この3人の作家達の共通点は、手芸的技法を使って作品を作る美術家だという事です。

既製品のパッケージや写真に刺繍を施し、唯一無二のオブジェを作り出す池田慎、古今東西の様々なイメージを繋ぎ合わせて少し毒のある可愛いハンカチやドイリーを制作する中村協子、編みぐるみの手法を用いて、設計図無しで不思議な生命感あふれる生き物たちを次々と産み出す八木春香。

この個性的な3人がstudio J に集結します。

手芸の枠に収まらない、驚くような新鮮さに満ちた作品達との出会いをお楽しみください。

作家コメント

手遊びや手慰みとも言われる事もある手芸ですが、僕にとっては手仕事を最も感じさせる作業です。嫌々細かい作業をしながらも、「手仕事に対する信頼」が僕を制作に向かわせています。

ここ２、３年刺繍に夢中です。刺繍作品では絵具と違って自分で色を作ることができないので、手持ちの糸から色を選ばなくてなりません。そのことが逆に色の響き合いをより深く追求していけるように感じています。

だれかが作った手芸作品や、編みかけの編み物、既成のセーターなどに手を加えて、元のものとは違った価値を見出そうとしています。ひとの手芸作品から感じる念や情熱みたいなものが魅力的だとおもっています。

studio J Exhibition Information

studio J is pleased to announce the group exhibition Wonder Shugeizm featuring Shin Ikeda, Kyoko Nakamura, and Haruka Yagi.

These three artists share a common theme of using handicraft techniques in their work. Shin Ikeda embroiders packaging for ready-made products and photographs to create one-of-a-kind objects; Kyoko Nakamura creates quite noxiously cute handkerchiefs and doilies which tie various images of the East and West together; and Haruka Yagi uses a crochet technique to bring to life a series of mysterious, patternless creatures. This unique trio will be holding their exhibition at studio j.

We hope you’ll take the time to visit and see something new that does not fit neatly into the idea of handicrafts.

 Artist’s comment

Handicraft is sometimes referred to as play or amusing oneself, but for me hands-on work makes me feel the most. Although I don’t like detailed work, it is my trust in hands-on work that drives me to create.

For the last couple of years, I have been obsessed with embroidery. Unlike painting, I cannot create my own colours in embroidery work, so I select from among the threads I have on hand. I feel that this allows me to explore colour resonance much more deeply.

I try to find differing values in others’ handicrafts, knitting, ready-made jumpers, and other items, by modifying them. I find the feeling and passion visible in other people’s handicrafts to be fascinating.
